ANKARA–Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc, in a letter to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, urged her not to take action on the Armenian Genocide Resolution, reported Turkish Daily News. The paper said that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would also contact President Bush–presumably to discourage the adoption by US Congress, of a resolution affirming the Armenian Genocide According to the newspaper, in his four-page letter to Pelosi, Arinc said that Turkey is "not in a state of irresponsible denial," concerning the "1915 events," which he argues are discussed freely in the country. The Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC was expected to deliver the letter to Pelosi on March 21. Recalling the special 50-year relationship between Turkey and the US, Arinc offered Pelosi the following for consideration: "If resolution 106 is accepted by the House of Representatives, Armenia’s will announce the baseless claims about 1915 as recognition by the United States. Such a development will be considered by Turkish society as US support to Armenian claims."
