ANKARA (Noyan Tapan)–International Turkish organizations have called on Turks throughout the world to send electronic letters of protest to city officials in the Dutch city of Assen–over that city’s decision to erect monument in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide–the Turkish Aksham newspaper eported.
This letter-writing campaign reportedly has yielded thousands of letters to the Assen City Council.
The newspaper alleges that Assen City officials have said that the decision on whether to have a monument will depend on the number of letters received from either side. The deadline for letters is set for August 18.
"No one has the right to infringe on the serenity of the Turks in the Netherlands through lies," reads the message sent to Assen officials via the internet.
The Armenian community is urged to counter this Turkish propaganda effort through its own letters. Messages may be sent to Assen officials at www.assen.nl.
