YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Twenty-six Armenian scientists received gran’s from the Armenian National Fund of Science and Education with the assistance of the Armenian Assistance Fund (AAF) of America on Monday.
Executive Director of AAF Simon Yeznik Balian noted that the gran’s are intended to prevent the Armenia’s intellectual community from leaving Armenia. The program also provides scientists an opportunity to work in their field of specialization. The fund was created two years ago and since then–the number of applicants is increasing yearly. In 2000–only 80 scientific research projects were submitted–of which only 22 were funded–in 2001–their number of submitted projects was 260–however only 26 were funded. The projects selected deal mostly with natural sciences.
Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Levon Mkrtchian handed the AAF executive director a special diploma of gratitude and a medal for his progressive activities in the department of education in Armenia.
