Burbank–Connie Lackey and Trish Burnett–the two incumbent candidates endorsed by the Burbank Armenian National Committee won their races in the Burbank Primary Election on February 27. They will serve another term as members of the Burbank Unified School District’s Board.
Two city council candidates Marsha Ramos and Gary Olson–also Burbank ANC endorsed–will proceed to the General election being held on April 10. Ramos narrowly missed winning outright garnering 48% instead of the required over-50%–for a second place finish behind the only council candidate–incumbent Stacey Murphy–to be elected outright.
Unfortunately–John Dominguez–the third council candidate endorsed by the ANC was eliminated in this first round of voting.
Burbank ANC chair Sdepan Boyajian’s evaluation of the results was positive: "I think we have gotten some good results. We will continue to expand our interaction with the school district. At least one of our two remaining candidates–Marsha Ramos–has an excellent chance of winning in the general election–and with hard work–we could get Gary Olson elected too".
The current City Cerk–Judie Sarquiz–running unopposed–was reelected. Donna Andrson–one of four City Treasurer candidates won outright. Over 10,800 ballots were cast–approximately 25% more than the last few electins’ average.
Burbank Armenian-Americans who are intereseted in volunteering for the Burbank ANC in the next coming weeks are encouraged to call (818)562-1918.
