Dedicated to the Armenian community of Smyrna/Izmir and organized by Prof. Richard Hovannisian–a conference (eleventh in a series on Historic Armenian cities and provinces) took place at UCLA last Saturday and Sunday. Scholars from Armenia–Argentina–Canada–France–Great Britain–Syria and various US universities–recreated the political–social–economic and cultural atmosphere of Smyrna/Izmir from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. A large number of Armenia’s and non-Armenia’s participated in the conference. At the end of the conference–Prof. Hovannisian said that the conference was a great success.
