YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Armenia met with Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) representatives Wednesday for consultations and an exchange of views regarding upcoming national elections in Armenia.
Ambassador Timothy Jones met with ARF Bureau member Vahan Hovhannisian–ARF of Armenia Supreme Body Chairman Armen Rustamian–and ARF National and Political Office Director Giro Manoyan at the party’s Simon Vratsian Center in Yerevan.
The participants discussed the recently held local elections as well as upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections.
The ARF representatives stressed that free–fair–and transparent elections are vital for Armenia’s future. The legitimacy of the upcoming elections must not be compromised–they said–because the elections have an important role to play in restoring the faith of the people in their country and their ability to determine their own future.
The ARF representatives thanked Ambassador Jones for having established close ties with the party during his term–which is scheduled to end in mid-December. In the past month or so the ARF had initiated negotiations with 18 parties in Armenia to help ensure that the local and upcoming national elections are held in accordance with national and international standards.
In the next few days–the ARF of Armenia will convene its national convention–during which elected delegates from party branches will determine the ARF position regarding the presidential elections.
