NEW YORK (Aysor)—United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called for the removal of snipers along both sides of the Karabakh “line-of-contact” separating the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan.
Ki-moon issued the request during talks at the weekend with Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian on the sidelines of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to an Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, the UN leader told Nalbandian he believed the removal of snipers “will strongly contribute to the establishment of a regime of non-use of force.”
Nalbandian agreed with Ki-moon, noting that his government has already sent “numerous proposals” to Azerbaijan regarding the issue. He said he hoped Official Baku would eventually accept Armenia’s suggestion to remove snipers from “line-of-contact.”
