YEREVAN (Armenpress)–US Ambassador to Armenia John Ordway visited the International Post-Traumatic Center on March 12–run by the Armenian Red Cross Society–to hand over a sizable load of equipment usually needed in emergencies.
The aid consists of big and small tents–clothes–shoes–and medicinal devices that may help some 500 people in case of an emergency.
The aid came from the US troops stationed in Europe. The ambassador said the need for such facilities for US troops in Europe has reduced and a decision was made on handing them over to Armenia.
Chief of the Armenian Red Cross Society G. Boshian thanked the US government and recalled that it was among the first nations to hasten to bring humanitarian and other aid to Armenia in the wake of 1988 Spitak earthquake.
In reference to a possible development of military contacts between the US and Armenia the ambassador said some several months will be needed to specify the concrete areas for such cooperation.
