ANKARA (News.az)—Azerbaijan is a “strategically important country for the United States,” the US Ambassador to Turkey said Monday in a televised interview with Haber Turk TV.
Ambassador James Jeffrey said the two countries have a “very good relationship and particularly close cooperation” in the energy sphere.
Commenting on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Jeffrey said Washington “understands” the sensitivities around the issue for Azerbaijan and Turkey.
“Washington makes great efforts towards settling the dispute,” he said, pointing to the recent appointment of Robert Bratke as the new US Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group mediating the Karabakh conflict. Jeffery described Bratke as “a more experienced diplomat.”
Negotiations for a resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been ongoing since the early 90s under the mediation of the Minsk Group, co-chaired by the US, France and Russia. “We want these meetings to continue”, Jeffrey said.
The only reason the turkies are interested in Azerbaijan is the OIL,OIL,OIL. Jeffrey should go back home,he is an embaressment to the U.S. goverment, the man is hallucenating with his rhetoric.
