YEREVAN (Armenpress)–According to the Azeri news agency Trend–a delegation of senior Pentagon officials are due to arrive in Azerbaijan in March or April. The goal of the visit is to meet with their counterparts in Baku to focus on developing military cooperation. The visit is thought to be an important step that will come after suspension of Section 907 which prohibited US government from providing direct assistance to Azerbaijan.
This visit of senior US military officials to Baku is being commented differently in Moscow. The director of the Institute of US and Canada in Moscow Sergey Rogov says that "Azerbaijan is gradually becoming a key factor for the US to penetrate not only into the South Caucasus–but the Central Asia as well." According to him–Washington uses Azerbaijan as a transport corridor. Rogov also said that regulation of the Karabakh conflict is not very important for the US right now.
