BAKU—“We need a renewed effort to once and for all resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” said US ambassador to Azerbaijan, Richard Morningstar, at a farewell event on July 24.
“Peace would bring substantial benefits to people across the region and ensure Azerbaijan’s prosperity into the future,” said the Ambassador.
He stated that the United States would continue to work to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“Obviously we and Azerbaijan sometimes look at these issues differently,” the Ambassador said.
“But as with any partner, continued dialogue is important. We can have disagreements, but we need to keep talking,” Morningstar said.
Richard Morningstar expressed regret of any kind of hostilities, casualties and tragedies at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“I know that the [OSCE Minsk Group] co-chairs are very concerned about the conflict along the line of contact and that just again goes to show how this terrible conflict must be resolved,” Ambassador Morningstar said.
“The Nagorno Karabakh settlement should be a priority,” US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick said in a Twitter post.
“I reminded OSCE representatives that a Nagorno-Karabakh settlement should be a priority, even with many global concerns,” Warlick said.
The Co-Chairs met with representatives of the Minsk Group countries to brief them about the status of peace negotiations.
I’m not sure I understood very much. Recognize Artsakh. That’s the only effort left, IMHO.
The US and the West clearly understand Mother Russia’s diabolical plans for the region. We should start seeing more positive statements from the West in support of Armenian/Karabakh sovereignty and security.
Don’t hold your breath on the US and the West
again, nothing condemning Azerbaijan. giving the green light for more attacks.
If you really want to resolve the conflict, then start calling things as they are, Armenia right and Azerbaijan is wrong.
Goodbye and good riddance Mr. Morgenshtern. Soon there won’t be any more problems on the border battle front. Armenia could easily develop a quick/instant response technology that triangulates and pinpoints the location of the sniper and instantly neutralize the shooter by intense machine gun fire. That fire will commence before the sniper has time to even look up or move. I have no solid or even rummer evidence of this being in the works, but it should be., But since I read about this technology over a decade ago, I’m sure that someone in the Armenian leadership must be looking at this. Otherwise, this occasional sniper shootings will turn into a torrent. These people are culturally 1000 years behind times. They have a medieval culture and mentality that needs medieval solutions. Perhaps we should accuse Alyev of murder, try him in an international court, and if found guilty, execute him. A drone with his name on it should take care of the problem. It would be extremely gratifying if it happened during one of his anti Armenian rants. So what if the world won’t like it? Despots and tyrants need to know that the long and vengeful arm of justice is “of this world”.
