YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At a Thursday rally attended by more than 20,000 people–National Democratic Union Chairperson Vazgen Manoukian stated that "Free and fair elections are the next step aimed at complete eviction of the former regime."
The NDU leader stressed the necessity and importance of the second step following the presidential elections being new parliamentary elections for which it is necessary that all political forces unite and cooperate. Manoukian also stressed the necessity of changing the Constitution currently in effect.
Manoukian noted that a successful resolution of numerous problems requires that three processes be simultaneously implemented: democratic reforms–new economic policy–unification of political forces.
Aram Sargssian–chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia–also called on all political forces to unite. And–he emphasized that the presidential candidates should have precise platforms.
Hrant Khachatrian–Chairman of the Union of Constitutional Right–also called for free and fair elections through the active participation of all political forces. According to him–even though the shift of power proceeded in a constitutional correct manner–it should not be forgotten that the new authorities also depend on the power ministries.
