STEPANAKERT (Armenpress)–The Central Election Commission in Nagorno-Karabakh Sunday said local-government elections were valid as over 63 percent of all eligible voters or 56,300 people went to the polls.
The commission said community leaders have been elected in 154 rural and urban communities. Nevertheless a recount of ballots will be held in several precincts in Askeran, Hadrut and Stepanakert regions to appease the complaints of candidates who lost.
In the capital Stepanakert 15,000 people went to elect their mayor. According to preliminary results, Vazgen Mikaelian was elected mayor of Stepanakert. He won 12,200 votes, which is 80 percent of all ballots.
