MOSCOW (Itar-Tass)–Armenian Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan arrived in Moscow on an official visit Monday evening in a bid to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation between the countries.
At Moscow’s airport–he was greeted by Vice-Prime Minister Vladimir Shcherbak.
During the visit–the sides are expected to sign bilateral documen’s–including in economic and financial ones. Sources in the Armenian Embassy said military-technical cooperation will not be high on the agenda of talks in Moscow.
On Tuesday–Sargsyan is scheduled to confer with Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin. Later in the day–he will meet Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov.
On July 21–Sargsyan will hold talks with Atomic Power Minister Yevgeny Adamov who is co-chairman of the Russian- Armenian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. The Armenian prime minister is also due to meet Minister for the CIS Mikhail Drachevsky.
The embassy confirmed that Sarkisyan may meet Gazprom head Rem Vyakhirev and first deputy defense minister and the chief of the General Staff–Anatoly Kvashnin. "However–this will depend on time," the sources said.
This is Sargsyan’s first official visit to Russia. Last May–Russia was visited Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian who had talks with Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.
