YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Several hundred refugees from Azerbaijan–parliament members–and government and party representatives paid tribute to the memory of those killed in Baku pogroms ten years ago.
Those Armenian pogroms continued for one week. More than 150 Armenia’s were killed and 200,000 were forced to flee from the country finding shelter in Armenia and other countries.
A special liturgy was served near the khachkar (cross-stone) commemorating the memory of the victims. Addressing the present–Zori Balayan–a writer–reminded that on the same days 65 people were killed in the village of Znaberd in Nakhichevan.
"I believe that history forgets nothing and will not allow us to forget either. History is not an abstract notion for us–it is an operating weapon and it must always be with us," he said.
The people of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic commemorated the 10th anniversary of the pogroms of Armenia’s in Baku–January 18.
Hundreds of people visited the Memorial Complex in Stepanakert to pay tribute to the memory of numerous victims of the January tragedy in Baku.
Karabakh’s top officials–including President Arkady Ghoukassian–Prime Minister Anushavan Danielian–government officials and parliamentarians–Security Council members–senior military officials came to lay wreaths at the Memorial to the innocent victims.
Local clergy performed a memorial Mass in commemoration of the innocent victims.
This year also marks the 12th anniversary of pogroms in Sumgait which took place in March 1988.
