AKHALKALAK (A-INFO)-The executive body of the Virk Party categorically opposed statemen’s made by Virk Party executive member Artiush Hambartsumian–who is also the chairman of the Akhalkalak district administration–saying that they constitute only personal opinions.
During a session of Georgian Parliament–Hambartsumian had said "Armenia’s had settled in Javakhk three centuries ago." Hambartsumian also commented that journalists should not raise the issue of autonomy for Javakhk.
The Virk Party executive statement countered Hambartsumian’s commen’s–and revealed that they are personal opinions and–as an ethnic group–Armenia’s have been the majority in Javakhk since ancient times.
Addressing the issue of Javakhk’s autonomy–the Virk Party statement stresses the will of the people of Javakhk who have applied to the Georgian Parliament [concerning the issue of autonomy] with the required 30,000 signatures–and expect a positive outcome.
The Party emphasized that the media should be allowed greater opportunity to impartially present the situation in Javakhk in order to reveal numerous cases of violation of Georgian-Armenians rights.
