TBILISI (Noyan Tapan)–Party leader David Rstkyan announced that the Virk party–which operates in Georgia’s predominantly Armenian-populated Samtskhe-Javakhk region–is planning to hold a congress in the near future.
Rstkyan said that the party congress–which is likely to take place as early as this month–will discuss ways to register Virk with the Georgian Ministry of Justice–and the possibility of running in the 2003 parliamentary elections.
Rstkyan said that the party had applied more than once for registration with the Justice Ministry but the issue has remained unresolved.
Rstkyan said that if the party succeeds in registering–it would have a chance to get representation in parliament–therefore–be able protect the interests of the Armenia’s residing in Samtskhe-Javakhk.
