YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–British Broadcasting Company reported that the latest developmen’s in Armenia may seriously undermine the negotiations on the Karabakh conflict. It also reported that a member of the Office of the President of Azerbaijan expressed regret over Ter-Petrosyan’s resignation. That source categorized Prime Minister (now Acting President) Robert Kocharian as a member of the "party of war."
Western diplomats involved in the negotiating process under the auspices of the OSCE also voiced concern. One high ranked western official was sure that negotiations would be frozen. However–he said that a new president would probably enjoy enough support to make concessions which are necessary to settle the Karabakh conflict.
