YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A number of books were recently published under a women’s program on the initiative of the Association of Women with University Degrees with the financial assistance of the United Nations National Fund for Support of Democracy. The presentation of two of the books–Women’s Safety in Society and Family and Balanced Democracy–was held at the United Nations Office in Armenia December 22.
Balanced Democracy contains reports and speeches of experts and advisors at AWUD-organized seminars.
The Women’s Safety book challenges the protection and safety of women both in public places and in families in countries going through transitional periods. The book discusses domestic violence and problems in war time and how to prevent them. The authors of the book consider violence and the threat of violence to be the main obstacle to the realization of women’s rights and their involvement in public life equally with men.
