YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Artashat-Tigratashen section of the Yerevan-Goris-Meghri highway was opened on October 4. Deputy Minister of Transport Artur Aivazian–who was present at the ceremony–reported that the repairs of the section required over 720 billion drams. According to him–repairs worth a total of $10 million are to be implemented under the highway restoration program this year. A total of 172 kilometers of highways have been repaired; the highway of the Pushkin pass was reconstructed–and the capital repairs of the 1.8 kilometer-long Pushkin tunnel will soon be started.
The World Bank-financed program was launched in 1995. 29 of the $31 million have already been disbursed. A total of 532 kilometers of highways have been repaired. The program will be implemented until 2001.
