YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– "Disabled persons are forced out of society–but we want to feel like we are full members," chairman of the All Armenian Fund of Young Disabled Persons "Avatamk," Nshan Basmajian–24–said at a news conference held at the House of Journalists last week.
Basmajian–who has been physically disabled since 1991–announced that he–together with his fellow disabled persons–would make a pilgrimage march on July 18 from Stepanakert to Yerevan to the St. Sargis Church and then to the residence of the president of Armenia to seek sponsors for the construction of the "Spiritual–Cultural and Rehabilitation Center" for 110,000 disabled persons.
The former mayor of Yerevan–Vano Siradeghian provided the "Avatamk" Fund with a territory of 888 sq. meters last November. Some $750,000 are needed for the construction of the center. So far the Fund has only collected $1,500.
